I woke up this morning surrounded by good friends, yet I could not help but to feel sad. Today was meant to be the day I left on the adventure of a lifetime! To attempt the first ever known sea to summit ascent of Mt Denali in Alaska. I had been dreaming about this day for three and a half years and all of the preparation work had been done and organised more meticulously than a half time Super Bowl show.
But due to my ankle resembling a dropped Apple I am now sitting on my deck down in Raglan
Now don’t get me wrong, I am at peace with the plot dealt to me, but I cannot help but feel that empty low feeling not dissimilar to grief. My friends were amazing this morning at cheering me up but it wasn’t until I got to the lookout spot above whale bay until my emotions shifted to a calming feeling of contentment.
There is just something so powerful about this spot that no matter what is going on internally, the beauty of this country really is the souls best medicine. By taking 20 minutes to breathe in the salt air and listen to the sets smash against the rocks, I was able to drive home with a huge smile on my face butchering ‘get away’ by Katchafire at the top of my voice.
If you do not have a spot like this, I highly recommend finding one as I know this will not be the last time I draw upon this view to help me deal with the tough times. Sometimes life can really be as simple as stopping, collaborating, and listening! (cheers Vanila Ice)
